Law Enforcement

West Virginia is fortunate to be a state with a relatively low crime rate. This is a tribute to our law enforcement divisions and their officers both on the state and local level. It is also a tribute to us. We must be ever vigilant to ensure that we maintain and improve on our record in this regard. And while our crime rate is low, there are certain types of crimes that cannot be tolerated to any degree. I am extremely pleased that West Virginia has added 6 additional state troopers to deal specifically with sex crimes against children. This type of crime is heinous and vicious and must be stopped. We need also to focus on crimes of domestic violence.

There is a great resource that can help us stay vigilant. It is called Nation of Neighbors. This is a website that you can join and share information with regard to local crime and security. You can report criminal or suspicious activity. As part of your membership it will send you alerts as they are posted for your community. It is monitored by law enforcement authorities. It is now a national phenomenon, and it is free. By the way, it was started by Art Hanson as local Jefferson County project.
